Knowing the Difference: What's New? What's the Same?

The 2020 and the 2021 Ford Explore come with these trim configurations.

  • XLT
  • ST
  • Limited
  • Platinum

There are a few changes to the newest Ford Explorer. Heated seats are standard on the 2021 XLT, and the 2021 Explorer has the option of a heated steering wheel. The XLT also now comes with a Sport Appearance Package that includes carbonized gray-coated 20” aluminum wheels accented with a carbonized gray mesh grille.

The ST, Limited, and Platinum Explorers all have an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. While a new cargo organizer is standard on the Platinum model, it’s optional on the ST, XLT, and Limited models. The newer XLT also includes faux skid plates, slate-colored interior upholstery, and dual exhaust outlets.

The many features that made the Ford Explorer such a great vehicle have not changed. You still have the choice of three powerful turbocharged engines, one of which is a 3.3L V6 engine and an electric motor and the capacity to give 318 combined horsepower. Both the 2020 and 2021 feature a ten-speed automatic transmission. They both offer a towing capacity of up to 5,600 pounds.

Both years offer the same technology and amenity features. A couple of them that were options are now standard. All in all, both the 2020 and 2021 Ford Explorers are a great vehicle to own and drive. Visit Tracy Langston Ford today to give each a test drive and decide which model is the perfect fit for you.
