Explore the Many Ways the Ford F-150 Pickup Bests its Springfield Competitor

It can be pretty tough to sort through the many choices you have in the highly-competitive full-size pickup truck segment. To help with that, we put together this convenient guide, where we took a look at how the Ford F-150 pickup stacks up against its Nissan rival, the Titan. Read on to see how the battle turned out.

Price

You'll save money by opting for the Ford F-150, right off the bat. With a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price that's more than $2,000 less than that of the Titan's, the Ford F-150 also costs less to insure over a five-year ownership period, according to industry data. Experts estimate that the F-150 incurs lower maintenance costs than the Titan and that the F-150 retains a higher percentage of its original price. Finally, you're sure to enjoy the significant savings you enjoy from the much better fuel economy that the F-150 delivers.

Performance

This part of the comparison was particularly unkind to the Titan. The F-150 offers drivers six engine choices, compared to the Titan's one, and includes a diesel option for those who want it -- Nissan doesn't. With top performance numbers of 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, the Ford F-150 is better suited to any hard jobs than the Titan's output of 300 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the F-150 enjoys max towing ratings of 13,200 pounds and a payload capacity of 3,270, while the Titan is only rated to pull 9,740 pounds with a payload cap of 1,630 pounds.

Interior and Features

The cabin in the F-150 offers more front-row legroom and shoulder room when compared to the Titan's interior. While both trucks offer the standard features you expect to find on an introductory model, such as power steering, a tilt steering wheel, and a 12V power outlet, the F-150 also includes automatic on/off headlights as a standard amenity. That's a feature that you'll have to pay extra to get on the base Titan.

Safety

The Ford F-150 earned a 5-Star Overall crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while the Titan was granted a 4-Star Overall rating. Both trucks feature standard frontal front side-impact, and side-impact head airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems , and rearview cameras.
