The Ford Ranger VS The Chevrolet Colorado

More drivers are turning to midsize trucks due to their smaller size and better fuel efficiency while still delivering impressive towing capabilities. One of the best-midsized trucks is making its way back to the streets after being sorely missed. The 2019 Ford Ranger and the competition is struggling to keep up.

Powertrain:

When we ask our customers what is most important when searching for a new truck the answer is most often powerful performance. And just because the Chevrolet Colorado has more powertrain options than the Ford Ranger doesn't mean it is a better pickup. The Ford Ranger is powered by a spirited and highly efficient 2.3L EcoBoost engine with Auto Start-Stop technology that generates 270 horsepower and best-in-class 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The Chevrolet Colorado does offer slightly more horsepower from its 3.6L V6 and can tow 200 lbs. more with the 2.8L Turbo Diesel. Both of these powertrain options are only available on select upper trim levels. Forcing you to spend more than you may have originally wanted to for the same power that is standard on the Ford Ranger.

Towing & Hauling:

Chevrolet Colorado:

  • 2.5L four-cylinder - 3,500 lbs. Max Towing
  • 3.6L V6 - 7,000 lbs. Max Towing
  • 2.8L Turbo Diesel - 7,700 lbs. Max Towing
Ford Ranger:
  • 2.3L EcoBoost - 7,500 lbs. Max Towing - best-in-class
  • 2.3L EcoBoost - 1,860 lbs. Max Payload - best-in-class

Technology & Safety Features

Not only does the Ford Ranger deliver impressive power and towing abilities to help you work harder, but it also has the latest technology to help you work smarter. Like 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity that can support up to 10 devices. Another helpful feature that the Ford Ranger can be equipped with is BLIS blind spot system with trailer coverage. The trailer coverage is adjustable so you can fully cover the exact length of your trailer. The Chevrolet Colorado doesn't offer a similar feature. Other advanced safety features of the Ford Ranger also include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. The Chevrolet Colorado is available with many of the same safety features and Wi-Fi connectivity, but once again they are only available as optional features on select upper trim levels.
